Supporting Special Populations
Kentucky African Americans Against Cancer (KAAAC)
The Kentucky African Americans Against Cancer
(KAAAC) is a volunteer group of concerned citizens and health care providers
seeking to reduce the incidence, morbidity and mortality of cancer in the
African American population of Kentucky. Sponsored by the Kentucky Cancer
Program, University of Louisville, the coalition was established in 1990.
The goals are to:
 |
Provide information on cancer to the community.
|
 |
Coordinate education/screening programs for the
prevention and early detection of cancer.
|
 |
Link the public to cancer services in the
community.
|
 |
Monitor cancer incidence.
|
KAAAC is a part of the
National Black Leadership
Initiative On Cancer, which is the outreach program of the
National Cancer Institute.
KCP's Coordinator for African American outreach
programs works with coalition members to coordinate special events
throughout the year for cancer prevention and early detection including
health fairs, church programs, community festivals, radio and television
shows, professional conferences, and school programs.
