Governor's Task Force on Breast
Cancer
Governor
Paul E. Patton established the
Kentucky Breast Cancer Task Force
in 1998 to address breast cancer in Kentucky. First Lady Judi Patton was
appointed the Chair, and KCP was asked to spearhead the initiative. The
sixty member, statewide group included health care providers, breast cancer
survivors, government officials, community leaders, along with
representatives from insurance companies and cancer control organizations.
The Task Force assessed breast cancer incidence and mortality, education and
outreach programs, screening and treatment services, insurance coverage, and
other issues related to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the
disease.
The Phase I (Executive Summary, Background,
Breast Cancer in Kentucky, Breast
Cancer Profile in Kentucky, Appendices)
and Phase II Breast Cancer Action Plans
outlining recommendations and actions were completed in 2000. Several
projects including a statewide public education campaign, a standards
of care pilot project, and a feasibility study for a mammography
registry have been initiated by KCP on behalf of the Task Force.
The 2002-03 Annual Report and 2002-02
Report Card were recently released. For more information, call
