First Lady's Statewide Mammography Campaign

The Kentucky Cancer Program has partnered with First Lady Glenna Fletcher and HealthCare Excel to increase breast cancer screening among Kentucky women age 65 and over. As part of the statewide campaign, Mrs. Fletcher is sending a special birthday wish to women 65 and over, "Celebrate your birthday with a mammogram. It's a gift that may save your life." Birthday cards from the First Lady will be mailed to all women ages 65 to 69 during the campaign.

The Kentucky Cancer Program will be coordinating birthday parties in local communities to encourage women to get mammograms and to educate community leaders about the breast cancer problem in this age group. Half of the women in Kentucky diagnosed with breast cancer are age 65 or over. Many women in this age group are not getting annual mammograms.
