Comprehensive Cancer Control

In September 1999, Kentucky was one of six states chosen by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to develop a comprehensive cancer control plan. The Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) contracted with KCP for assistance and with the help of organizations across the state a Cancer Action Plan for Kentucky was completed in January 2001.

In September 2003, the CDC awarded KCP a five year grant to establish a statewide consortium to facilitate the implementation of the plan. The award is the result of a collaborative effort between KCP, KDPH and the American Cancer Society. Additional funds will maintain the current momentum and promote greater progress. Comprehensive Cancer Control presents a tremendous opportunity for Kentucky to expand existing cancer prevention and control efforts through enhanced coordination and collaboration.
